Police today shot and killed a man armed with a knife who was about a kilometer and a half from the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee (Wisconsin), according to several North American media outlets.

The officers involved in the incident belong to the Columbus (Ohio) department and were in Milwaukee because they are part of the 4,500 officers helping local authorities protect the city during the convention, which ends on Thursday, a police source told The New York Post.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, which cites police sources, indicated that the shooting occurred near North 14th and West Vliet streets, outside the security perimeter of the convention, which is taking place at Fiserv Stadium, in this city in the state of Wisconsin.

A local television station, WISN 12 News, cited witnesses who said there was a fight between two men in the city's King Park neighborhood and that police shot and killed one of the men.

The police officers were said to be patrolling on bicycles and found a man with a knife and at least three police officers fired shots.

A video allegedly related to these events began to circulate on social media.

On Saturday, Trump was injured during a campaign event in Pennsylvania when a man shot toward the stage where the former president was giving a speech. One of the bullets hit the former president's right ear, causing a minor injury.

The governor of the state of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro, announced that a former firefighter identified as Corey Comperatore, 50, died while protecting his family from shots fired by Thomas Crooks, 20, who was killed by authorities.
