A woman from the UK has been left in tears after being detained in Thailand due to a "one centimeter" tear in her passport. "I never thought it would be such a problem for me," said Rosie Viscomi, 27.

Rosie had been staying on a Thai island since April, where she stayed to take a certificate in yoga. She also took part in volunteer work until she decided to return home to Norfolk at the beginning of the month.

The teacher booked a flight with several stopovers, which would pass through Bangkok, India and Turkey until finally arriving in London, says the New York Post.

It was at Bangkok airport that the worst happened, as Rosie was prevented from continuing her journey by IndiGo Airlines staff due to a "one centimeter" tear on the photo page of her passport. "You're not going anywhere with that," she was told.

Rosie found the situation uncomfortable, as the tear had not been a problem in previous boardings.

The woman was then taken to the immigration services, where she was told that there was "nothing they could do", which brought Rosie to tears. Afraid of being detained, the woman contacted the UK embassy in Thailand, which helped her return home.

The process cost thousands of pounds, so Rosie was left "penniless".
