A school employee in Illinois, USA, has been sentenced to 9 years in prison for stealing 11,000 boxes of chicken wings from the school she worked for.

The goods, worth 1.5 million dollars, were intended to be served to the school's students and were stolen during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Vera Liddell took advantage of her position as director of catering at Harvey School District 152 to commit the crime.

The 68-year-old woman allegedly carried out the thefts between July 2020 and February 2022, according to ABC 7 Chicago.

It should be noted that although schools were closed during this period, the Chicago district schools continued to cook meals for students in remote education. However, none of them ever saw (or tasted) any of the chicken wings that had been purchased for them.

Vera Liddell was charged in January 2023 with theft and operating a criminal enterprise.
