Authorities located the teenager inside a vehicle in the parking lot near the school that was allegedly the target.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested on Tuesday after filming himself pointing a gun and mentioning a high school in a social media post in St. Louis County, Missouri.

The alert was raised at 1:00 p.m. local time that day through the platform Courage2Report, NBC News reported.

Authorities located the teenager inside a vehicle in the parking lot of the Husky Academy, which is located about a mile from Ritenour High School, with a loaded gun.

When an officer from the St. Ann Police Department approached, the teenager “ran away and dropped the weapon,” but was quickly stopped.

The teenager told authorities that he obtained the weapon through a friend, but police are still investigating.

“If the information had not reached authorities, the outcome could have been very different,” they said.

The teen, who was a former student in that school district, was charged with first-degree terroristic threatening, resisting arrest and unlawful use of a weapon.
