Beyoncé attended a Kamala Harris rally in Houston, Texas, on Friday (25) in her first public political appearance in this US election cycle and declared her support for the Democratic candidate.

Beyoncé, who hails from Houston, took to the stage to loud applause from the crowd of around 30,000 people attending the vice-president's abortion rights campaign event, alongside her fellow former Destiny's Child member Kelly Rowland.

The superstar told the crowd at the rally in her hometown that the country is on the ‘brink of history’ and it's time to ‘sing a new song’.

I'm not here as a celebrity. I'm not here as a politician. I'm here as a mum,’ the singer added.

‘It's time to sing a new song,’ Beyoncé told the crowd. ‘A song that started 248 years ago. The old notes of falling, discord, despair no longer resonate,’ she added.

The singer then introduced Kamala, who took to the stage with what has become her campaign anthem: the song ‘Freedom’ from Beyoncé's 2016 album ‘Lemonade’.

The superstar was introduced by her mum, Tina Knowles. She went out with fellow former Destiny's Child member Kelly Rowland.
