Tommy Robinson was sentenced to 18 months in prison for contempt, after admitting to disrespecting the court after repeating false accusations about Syrian refugee Jamal Hijazi, reports the international press.

The far-right activist, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, admitted breaching a court order ten times at a hearing at Woolwich Crown Court.

According to Reuters, the judge said that “the violations were not accidental, negligent or reckless.” He adds that “each of the violations of the court’s order was considered and planned, deliberate, direct and egregious.”

The court order prevented the activist from defaming the young Syrian and was imposed in 2021. However, it was violated from February 2023 until July this year, according to him.

In the same year, Robinson was also forced to compensate Jamal Hijazi for around €120,000 (£100,000).

At issue were publications on social media that defamed the young man after a video went viral of Hijazi being attacked in the school yard.

'Robinson' was arrested last Friday for violating the sentence that condemned him for defaming Jamal Hijazi.

It is worth remembering that this activist attracted thousands of people to London, a protest that resulted in five injured police officers and several arrests in 2018.
