Two Belgian journalists from the VTM channel were injured last night while covering an Israeli air strike in Beirut, the Belgian media outlet reported today, stressing that both are in hospital.

War journalist Robin Ramaekers suffered facial fractures and image reporter Stijn De Smet was wounded in the leg, the Belgian television channel said.

The media outlet's editorial team managed to speak to the two journalists by phone, stressing that they are not in danger of dying, a spokesman for the DPG Media group, which owns VTM and the Het Laatste Nieuws newspaper, told the AFP news agency.

The exact circumstances of the incident are still unknown

DPG Media explained that the two journalists were injured “while covering” a bombing that hit central Beirut during the night.

An Israeli attack on a Hezbollah aid center in Beirut left six dead overnight Wednesday and today, after a day marked by ground fighting in southern Lebanon, where eight Israeli soldiers died.

Israel carried out a total of 17 attacks in Beirut and its southern suburbs between Wednesday night and today, according to the official Lebanese news agency NNA.

The Belgian Foreign Ministry said it was closely monitoring the situation of its two wounded citizens.

There are currently around 1,800 Belgians in Lebanon and the Belgian consular authorities are willing to help repatriate those who wish to leave the country, Belgian diplomacy also stressed.
