Since the end of the controversy over her conservatorship in 2021, singer Britney Spears has not given interviews and has remained more reclusive. However, an excerpt from a statement made in 2016 has recently come to light, which had been cut at the time at the request of her team because it did not allow her to discuss the matter.
Britney Spears' conservatorship began after an outburst in 2007. Until 2021, the singer's father had full control over her career and finances.
After a long legal battle, Britney managed to get rid of the conservatorship. Since then, she has posted some cryptic captions on social media and shared videos of herself dancing, often in bikinis and lingerie.
A portion of an interview with the singer on the TV program ‘The Jonathan Ross Show’ was recently released, in which she stated that, at the time, she had been under her father's legal control for eight years and briefly addressed this situation.
The piece of the recording, which had to be cut, was aired during a special on the TV channel, to recall iconic moments from the talk show. In the recording, Jonathan asked Britney about the album she had worked on. “Are you more involved musically on this one than on the previous ones? So you took control. Are you more in control of your music than you were before? Why did it take so long? Why did you wait until now to do it?”
The singer didn’t hesitate to answer: “Well, um, there are a lot of reasons, but I’m not going to get into the whole story. […] Since the conservatorship… I felt like a lot of things were planned for me to do and, you know, I was told what to do. And I thought: for this [album], I want it to be like my baby, I want to do it my way, and I was very strategic in the way I did it, so, yeah, that’s why it means so much to me.”
Britney received a standing ovation from the audience after her answer and, next, Jonathan asked if she was “happy” and in a “good place”. “Yes sir,” she said.
In the comments section of the clip, fans celebrated that this had finally come to light. “I can’t believe we’re actually seeing this. I thought this day would never come. Britney, you are so strong. We LOVE you!” said one. “I’m glad this finally got out,” commented another. “I can’t believe she actually did this and they just cut it but I’m glad we’ve seen it now,” celebrated another.
