Donald Trump's victory in Tuesday's presidential election has sparked a surge of interest among American women in the feminist movement that began in South Korea.

The movement, which calls itself the '4 B', is based on the premise that women should not date, marry, have sex with or have children with men.

Since Wednesday, Google has registered more than 200,000 people who have searched for the subject, and many women on social media have advocated adopting this lifestyle.

The movement began in South Korea in 2018 in the wake of the 'MeToo' movement, and has become a way for women to protest against gender discrimination and violence against women, explained Meera Choi, a doctoral student at Yale University.

"Women began to think about how the government, the state and men were failing them and decided to stop collaborating with them by not participating in heterosexual relationships," she adds.

The renewed interest in 4B comes in the wake of an election in which gender played a major role, NBC writes. Some thought that issues surrounding the future of women’s reproductive rights would lead voters to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris and hand Trump a landslide defeat — instead, women gravitated toward him. For many women, Trump’s victory was an indication that their reproductive rights are diminishing.

On social media, many American women came out in support of this stance, explaining that it is not an all-out war against Republicans.

Rather, it is a way to make a statement about the country’s anti-abortion laws, which could endanger women’s lives.

In South Korea, the movement has resulted in a sharp drop in the birth rate, which has negatively impacted the country’s economy.
