Eminem took the stage for the first time five days after the death of his mother, Debbie Nelson, who died on December 2, aged 69.
The rapper performed at the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on December 7, which was his first public appearance after his mother's departure.
The artist and his mother did not have an easy relationship, in fact, the song 'Without Me', from 2002, is one that talks about Debbie Nelson. "I just sorted out all my files. F*****, Debbie," he says. During the performance, the rapper sang the aforementioned song, but did not sing the verse in which he explicitly talks about his mother, letting the crowd sing that part, reports People.
The lyrics are a reference to the defamation lawsuit Debbie Nelson filed against her son in 1999, over lyrics on the album she released that year, 'The Slim Shady LP'.
