The European Union (EU) today agreed with the pressure exerted by the President of the United States of America (USA) on Russia to "end the war", but opposed the idea of expelling Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.

"I am glad that President [Donald] Trump has put pressure on Russia, explaining to it that it is in its hands to end the war," EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said as she joined a meeting in Brussels, capital of Belgium and where the main European institutions are located.

Asked about the US president's proposal for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, namely the expulsion of Palestinians from the Palestinian enclave, Kaja Kallas did not openly criticize Donald Trump, preferring to remember that the community bloc's position is different.

"The people of Gaza have suffered a lot and I think both the Palestinians and the Israelis deserve peace, so I think we need to move from a ceasefire to a more permanent solution. In this way, the EU supports the two-state solution, supporting not not only the security of Israel, but also the rights of the Palestinians," added the former Estonian Prime Minister.

European Union foreign ministers are meeting today in Brussels to discuss further restrictions on Russia over its invasion of Ukrainian territory, sabotage of underwater infrastructure in the Baltic Sea and the ceasefire in Gaza.
