More than 200 schools in Hungary were evacuated on Thursday after receiving bomb threats via email, the Budapest Business Journal reports. The Lauder Javne Jewish school was one of them.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has already announced measures to strengthen security and said that authorities are investigating these threats that disrupted the normal functioning of 240 schools across the country.
In a post on the social network Facebook, Orbán assured that he is in "direct contact" with the Minister of the Interior, Sándor Pintér, to monitor the situation.
For now, police believe the bomb threats originated from a single source, as the content of the emails is similar.
"All necessary measures are being taken to address these threats," Hungarian police assured.
According to local media, schools in both urban and rural areas were affected.
Újpest Mayor Róbert Trippon announced on social media that five high schools in the area had been evacuated.
Authorities advised individuals and institutions who received these threats to immediately contact the police, who will give them instructions.
To support students in affected schools, Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony announced on Facebook that heated buses from the public transport company BKK have been made available so that children who have had to leave their schools can stay warm.
