An American woman has accused brothers Tristan and Andrew Tate of conspiring to coerce her into prostitution by luring her to Romania and defaming her after she testified to Romanian authorities, according to a lawsuit filed Monday.
The news was reported by the New York Times, which said the lawsuit filed in Florida is the first against the brothers in the United States.
It is worth remembering that the pair face several civil and criminal proceedings in Romania and Great Britain, having been accused of forming an organized criminal group, human trafficking, trafficking of minors, sexual relations with a minor and money laundering, despite denying having committed any illegal act.
The woman, who was identified in the complaint as Jane Doe, had been sued by the brothers in 2023 for defamation. The 23-year-old alleged that the pair tried to “intimidate and harass” her in that instance.
One of the brothers' attorneys, Joseph D. McBride, realized that there was no evidence that his clients were involved in human trafficking, and assured them that the truth was on their side.
It should be noted that last month a Romanian court suspended the house arrest order against Andrew Tate, replacing it with a lighter preventive measure, pending the results of the criminal investigation.
The misogynistic influencer had been under house arrest since August, when prosecutors launched a second criminal investigation against him, his brother Tristan and four other suspects.
A first criminal trial collapsed in December when the Bucharest Court of Appeal ruled against the trial of Andrew Tate and returned the case to the public prosecutor.
