Two suspects have been arrested following the murder of Louise, an 11-year-old girl found dead in woodland on Saturday after going missing in Épinay-sur-Orge, France.
The detainees are a young man, 23 years old, and his mother, 55 years old. The man was arrested for murder, while the woman is accused of failing to report the crime, the Évry public prosecutor's office announced.
Le Parisien writes that the two were already known to the police for minor crimes.
An item believed to belong to one of the two suspects was discovered during a search on Sunday, but the murder weapon was not found.
Investigations to determine his involvement in the crime are ongoing.
On Saturday, a couple, also young, were detained by the police, but released without any coercive measures.
Louise's death shocked France and the international community. The child's autopsy revealed a large number of injuries, in vital areas, caused by sharp objects. A police source said the minor was "struck more than ten times with an object that could be a knife."
It is worth remembering that, after the discovery of the body, in the early hours of Saturday, the Public Prosecutor's Office of Évry opened an investigation into the murder of a 15-year-old girl.
Louise went missing on Friday afternoon after leaving school at 3pm (2pm in Lisbon). More than 120 police officers were mobilized and his body was finally found in a forest a few hours later.
Today, the cities of Longjumeau and Épinay-sur-Orge have adopted security measures "on the routes to and from school".
