Russia launched 117 drones against Ukraine last night, including real drones and replicas that Russian forces use to confuse enemy defenses, the Ukrainian Air Force said in a statement today.

Ukrainian air defenses shot down 56 Shahed attack drones and other types of attack drones overnight in northern, southern, eastern and central Ukraine, the Air Force said in a statement.

Another 48 drones without explosive charges - replicas of Shahed drones - crashed without causing damage.

The attack caused damage in the Sumi (northeast), Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad and Cherkasy (center) regions.

This latest drone strike comes after Russia and Ukraine assured the US on Tuesday that they would work towards a truce on attacks in the Black Sea and on energy infrastructure, without setting any specific conditions or timetable for the partial ceasefire.

The war in Ukraine began in 2014 with Russia's annexation of the Crimean peninsula from Ukraine, and Russian troops invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
