Chicago Train Attacker Yelled 'Burn Alive B*tch' During Arrest
50-year-old Lawrence Reed, accused of setting a 26-year-old woman on fire on a CTA Blue Line train, spontaneously shouted "Burn b*tch!" and "Burn alive b*tch!" while being transported by police after his arrest.
Surveillance footage captured Reed purchasing gasoline at a West Side station before boarding the train and dousing the victim.
The women suffered severe burns to her face and body and remains in critical condition.
Reed, with a prior history of arson and violence including setting fire to the Thompson Center in 2020, faces federal charges for a terrorist attack on mass transportation and was on pretrial release for another assault at the time of the incident.
Authorities noted Reed violated his electronic monitoring conditions, marking him as the 19th person accused of attempted murder in Chicago this year while on felony release.
