Michigan Democrat Shri Thanedar announced plans to introduce legislation this week to dismantle U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, citing a fatal shooting by an ICE agent in Minneapolis as proof the agency is 'totally out of control.' He spoke alongside Reps. Bennie Thompson and Ilhan Omar, who back holding ICE accountable amid Minnesota's sanctuary state tensions, where agents have arrested over 1,000 criminal noncitizens including murderers and child rapists. Republicans like House Speaker Mike Johnson call the push 'dangerous political games' that undermine public safety, predicting the bill won't pass in the GOP-controlled House.
