It was with calculator in hand that the fans followed the final matchday of group D on Tuesday afternoon, as Austria, France and the Netherlands secured qualification for the knockout stages of Euro'2024.
Before the whistle blew against the Dutch, Austria were in third place, but a historic win in Berlin (3-2) secured top spot. After all, Austria hadn't beaten the Oranje in 34 years.
In the other match, in Dortmund, the French once again hit their stride with another draw against already eliminated Poland (1-1), but held on to second place in the group.
For their part, the Netherlands have already booked their place in the next round, despite their third-place finish. With four points, the Dutch team will always be one of the best third-placed teams in the group stage.
