Police announced on Wednesday that the deaths of six people at a luxury hotel in Bangkok, Thailand, were caused by poisoning. The identity of the person responsible for the murder has since been revealed.

This morning it emerged that the six people shared the same hotel room and that tea cups with traces of cyanide were found inside. It was believed that the murderer was among the dead, that the crime was a homicide followed by suicide, and that it was a family dispute over money.

The person responsible, it is now known, is Sherine Chong, a 56-year-old woman with dual Vietnamese and American nationality.

The authorities say that Sherine was alone when a hotel employee went to deliver food to the room, and the rest of the guests arrived moments later. This was the last time the six people were seen alive.

The bodies were found on Tuesday at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel in the centre of Bangkok. According to the police, the six people found dead were the only guests in that hotel room.
