Grindr has reportedly been blocked in the Paris Olympic Village, after the gay dating app had already been limited during previous Games to prevent users from finding athletes' profiles.

The ‘explore’ function on the app has been limited, meaning that people won't be able to find any profiles at the venue where more than 14,000 athletes will be staying.

A post on X, formerly Twitter, showed that ‘no profiles were available’ and there were reports that Grindr had been ‘blocked’.

Some have suggested that the measure was taken to prevent previous cases in which athletes were reported, such as at the Rio Olympics in 2016.

The Paris 2024 organizing committee told MailOnline that dating apps are accessible in the Olympic Village, ‘but for some, geolocation has been disabled’.

Grindr imposed the same restriction during the Beijing Winter Olympics in 2022, with the app's equality officer, Jack Harrison-Quintan, saying at the time: ‘We want Grindr to be a space where all queer athletes, regardless of their background, feel confident to connect with each other while in the Olympic Village.’
