German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock today condemned the attack that left 12 people dead on Saturday in the Golan Heights and called on the parties involved in the conflict to act calmly.

"For months, Israeli citizens have been attacked by Hezbollah and other extremists. The perfidious attacks must stop immediately. Now it is important to act with a cool head. Too many people have already died in this conflict," the German minister declared on the social network X.

"I condemn the attack on the Druze village of Majdal Shams. The fact that children and young people who simply wanted to play football were killed is horrific. My condolences go to their families," Annalena Baerbock also said.

On the other hand, Iran today warned Israel not to carry out "new adventures" in Lebanon.

"Any reprehensible action by the Zionist regime could lead to increased instability, insecurity and war in the region," Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Naser Kanani said. "The [Israeli] regime will be primarily responsible for the unforeseen consequences and reactions of such stupid behavior," Kanani said. Kanani also assessed that the international community should "support the stability and security of Lebanon and the region" against Israel, a country that "does not have the slightest moral authority to comment on and judge the incident that occurred in the Majdal Shams region."

The Iranian spokesman also called on the United States to "prevent the Israeli regime from starting a new fire whose flames will engulf the Zionists themselves," instead of honoring "the criminal prime minister [Israeli Benjamin Netanyahu, on a visit to the United States] of that regime."

A projectile from Hezbollah, a pro-Iran and pro-Palestine Lebanese Shiite movement, hit a football pitch in the Druze city of Majdal Shams on Saturday, where Druze boys and girls (an Arab community) were playing, killing 12 people. The identities of eleven of the victims, all minors between the ages of 10 and 16, have been confirmed.

Israel subsequently bombed seven areas of Lebanon on Saturday night in response to the Hezbollah attack that killed 12 children and teenagers in the Druze community of Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights, the Israeli army said today.

The Israeli strikes targeted the Lebanese areas of Sabrinha, Borj El Chmali, Beka'a, Kfar Kila, Rab a-Taltin, al Khyam and Tir Hafa, according to an Israeli military statement.

The border between Israel and Lebanon, an ally of the Palestinians, is experiencing its most tense moment since 2006, with intense hostilities since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip between Israel and the Islamist group Hamas on October 7.

The hostilities have already caused the death of around 565 people, most of them in Lebanon and some in Syria, including Hezbollah militiamen and civilians. In Israel, 46 people died, 22 soldiers and 24 civilians, according to the Israeli army.
