Instagram Reduces Quality of Videos with Few Views

The Meta executive responsible for Instagram, Adam Mosseri, revealed in a video Q&A session that the social network reduces the quality of videos that are not very popular.


"In general, we want to show the video in the highest quality possible... But if something isn't watched for a long time - because the vast majority of views are at the beginning - we'll move on to the lower quality video. And then, if it's watched again, we'll re-render the video to a higher quality," explained Mosseri.


The executive noted that the difference wasn't drastic, recognizing that the Instagram team is concerned not to impact smaller content creators or those at the beginning of their careers.
