The Ukrainian Air Force announced today that it has issued air alerts over most of Ukraine, following the take-off of several Russian bombers.
Alert! Missile danger across Ukraine! MiG-31K takeoff," the Ukrainian Air Force said in a message on the Telegram platform.
Authorities also said that eight Tupolev Tu-95 strategic bombers were heading toward Ukraine.
The Tu-95 is a long-range bomber developed by the former Soviet Union that can carry cruise missiles. The MiG-31 is an interceptor and strike aircraft, often used to accompany strategic bombers.
At least six people were killed and about 20 injured in Russian strikes in Mykolaiv and Zaporizhia in the south of the country early this morning, local authorities said.
"Fires broke out in residential buildings in the city and all emergency services are on the ground," the governor of the Mykolayev region, Vitaly Kim, said on Telegram.
