After the arrest - and the identity of the killer of the CEO of  UnitedHealthCare was revealed - the life of young Luigi Mangione and the reasons that led him to commit murder are being scrutinized.

The latest information reveals what his family and life story are like. Surprisingly, Luigi comes from a wealthy family, well-known in his local community and who have even contributed millions of dollars to the health industry.

Luigi's grandfather, Nick Mangione Sr., is a descendant of Italian immigrants and is proud to say that he arrived in the country penniless and managed to become a millionaire. The man runs a series of local resorts, country clubs, nursing homes and even a radio station.

Nick and his wife, Mary, have earned local respect as renowned philanthropists, donating more than $1 million to the Greater Baltimore Medical Center, where all of their 37 grandchildren were born—which led the facility to name its obstetrics unit after the family.

The Mangione Family Foundation has also made large donations to local institutions such as St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and St. Joseph Medical Center at the University of Maryland.

Acquaintances and friends say the family's reputation makes it even harder to believe that one of the man's grandchildren would commit such an act, and they say they don't understand why he would be so angry at the health care system—which was one of his grandparents' biggest concerns.

It is worth remembering that the 26-year-old killed the CEO of one of the largest American insurance companies last Wednesday. When he was arrested, the young man had in his possession a manifesto in which he apologized for the trauma he could have caused, but showed no remorse.

"A reminder: the US has the #1 most expensive healthcare system in the world, but we are ranked 42nd in terms of life expectancy. United is the largest [undecipherable word] company in the US in terms of market capitalization, behind only Apple, Google and Walmart. It has grown and grown, but what about our life expectancy? No, the reality is that these [undecipherable word] have simply become too powerful and continue to abuse our country to make huge profits, because the American public has allowed them to get away with it," he wrote.

The young man was charged with murder.
