The decision was made by a Brazilian court regarding the improper collection of data by the FaceApp application. The two companies will also have to pay a fine of around 3 million euros.

Brazil decided to fine Apple and Google 19 million reais (around 3 million euros), considering that the companies responsible for the iOS and Android application stores allowed the FaceApp application to collect user data improperly.

As reported by the website UOL, the judge who made the decision considered that the application violates the Internet Civil Rights Framework - a law that seeks to regulate the operation of digital platforms in the country and that prevents these companies from collecting personal data from internet users without due consent.

In addition to the fine, the judge's decision indicates that Google and Apple must monetarily compensate each person in the country who has downloaded and used FaceApp since June 2020. This decision provides that each of these people is entitled to 500 reais - the equivalent of around 80 euros.

The website 9to5mac says that both Apple and Google have already expressed their opposition to this decision, noting that they have no control over FaceApp's terms of use and that this data was collected in accordance with “international standards”.
