As promised by Donald Trump during his campaign and inauguration, the name will be changed to the Gulf of America.

Google confirmed this Monday, 27th, that it will change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America on Google Maps.

The company notes, however, that the change will only be made once the Trump administration updates its “official government sources.”

“We’ve received a few questions about naming on Google Maps. We have a long-standing practice of applying name changes when they are updated in official government sources,” read the post shared by the American technology company on the social network X. “When official names vary between countries, Maps users can see its official local name. In the rest of the world, everyone can see both names. This applies here as well.”

It is worth remembering that changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America is a promise made by Trump during the election campaign, one that he repeated on January 20 during his inauguration as the new US president.

It is understood that in addition to the Gulf of Mexico, Google is also set to change a mountain name in the state of Alaska from Denali to Mount McKinley.
