Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday that Russian President Vladimir Putin's security has been and is always being tightened, regardless of assassination attempts on other leaders.
"For obvious reasons, security has already been strengthened regardless of the above-mentioned events," Peskov stressed, responding to a question about the need to increase Putin's protection measures after the assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.
According to the Kremlin spokesman, "the protection of the head of state is ensured at an adequate level". "Everything necessary is being done, taking into account, of course, the international escalation of tensions in general," he added.
Donald Trump was the victim of an assassination attempt on Saturday during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The former US president was injured. One of his supporters was killed in the shooting and the attacker was shot dead by the secret service.
In addition to Trump, two months earlier the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, was shot outside a meeting of the Council of Ministers in the municipality of Handlova. Fico underwent several operations and spent two weeks in hospital.
