In early January 2026, the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia announced the arrest of Brya Hardy, 18, following a bizarre and elaborate fraud investigation.
Hardy is accused of convincing an ex-boyfriend that they had a child together after their relationship ended several years ago. To maintain the ruse, she allegedly sent him photos of a random infant and requested financial assistance for the child's upbringing. Over the course of the scam, the victim sent more than $7,000 via CashApp before becoming suspicious and contacting the authorities in December 2025.
18-year-old woman, Brya Hardy, was arrested and charged with theft by deception after scamming her ex-boyfriend out of over $7,000 in child support after falsely claiming he was the father of a baby that wasn’t his nor hers. 👀😳🤔 pic.twitter.com/aktr9RIBxQ
